Cobalt Foam

Cobalt is a ferromagnetic metal of group 9 (VIIIb) of the periodic table, and it is especially used for heat-resistant and magnetic alloys.

Cobalt foam, based on cobalt, is a highly porous metallic material with excellent thermal conductivity, good electrical conductivity, large porosity, and large specific surface area.

Special Properties

• Sound absorption—as its porous structure, cobalt foam has the characteristics of sound absorption and insulation.
• Heat and chemical resistance—The resistance to high temperature of cobalt foam is above 1100°C, and it is resistant to various acid, alkali and chemical corrosion.
• Electromagnetic shielding—Cobalt foam can shield electromagnetic waves.
• Working properties—Cobalt foam can be cut, bend and glued together.

Applications

Cobalt foam is a low-density permeable material with numerous applications. Typical applications are as follows:

• Battery Cathode Substrate

Because of its excellent features, such as light density, high porosity, built-in strength, high resistance to corrosion, and favorable electrical and thermal conductivity, cobalt foam can be used in battery area especially in the battery cathode substrate.

• Catalyst Support

As its high specific surface area and resistance to various chemicals, cobalt foam can be used as catalyst support in automobile exhaust treatment and chemical production.

• Filter

Cobalt foam has high conductivity, high mechanical strength and the good flexibility, and these features make it an option in filters.
