- Application of Foam Materials in Architecture
In architecture, foam products are used for functionality and aesthetics: thermal insulation can be achieved both with exterior and interior panels that can be also part of decorative elements; Closed-cell metallic foam is widely used as a lightweight construction material, both in its original format, and as sandwich panels, which are valued for their low density and very high stiffness; sound absorbing properties can be achieved by using proper foam products, and so on. Alfa Chemistry offers a wide choice in this sense.
Due to the excellent and unique properties in architecture applications, the construction usage of aluminum foams rising in the last years. The main reason for the increasing of aluminum foams in architecture is their excellent mechanical properties. Besides, unique properties of the material lead to a diverse range of structural advantages such as absorbing energy, high ductility, an excellent stiffness to weight ratio and non-structural advantageous like low thermal conductivity, and high vibration absorption in the various application of architecture.
Foam glass-ceramic material has the characteristics of high strength, low thermal conductivity, and no water absorption. And it has strong resistance to ultraviolet rays and wind and rain and has a permanent thermal insulation effect, which avoids the damage of the building structure due to changes in high and low temperatures. Foam glass has excellent comprehensive properties, as well as strong weather resistance and durability.
Most buildings constructed before the energy crisis are un-insulated and have no provisions for vapor control or ventilation. Properly installed polyurethane (PU) foam systems can be utilized to overcome many of these limitations, allowing historic structures to maintain their aesthetic charm while meeting modern energy conservation and climate-control needs. The most significant advantage of PU foams is that they can be field-processed and field-applied using reasonably practical methods with the expectation of consistently producing a quality product.
